the organization in May of 1987. Gary and Larry have worked as a
team for over 22 years. The Schmitz's got their start in the grocery
business back in 1937 when Jim and Julia Schmitz started the business
with S.A. Wallace. Jim and Julia owned the meat side of the business
and Wally and Valma operating the produce and grocery side.
Dave Schmitz, who with his wife Ellen presently own and operate the business,
got his start working with his mother and dad-working 12 of his
first 24 years of life in the meat
department. The meat department has been the signature department
of the store for years and continues to hold that status today under the
leadership of Gary Redman and his able assistant Larry Colby. If
